happy september and another year of oxfam’s second hand september - a pledge to buy only second hand items for the whole month. this pledge encourages us to make more sustainable fashion choices whilst raising money for people living in poverty - all the more important given our current climate and economic crisis!

i’ve made the pledge every year since it started in 2019, to varying degrees of success. this year, i’m determined to make it to the end of the month so i’ve officially taken the pledge by signing up on oxfam’s website. in return, oxfam share tips and tricks to help maintain your pledge, a 20% discount code to use on their website and a chance to win front row seats to oxfam’s invite only london fashion week show.

i’m a big fan of buying second hand clothing all year round - its more sustainable than buying new, i’m less inclined to fall into the trap of following trends and i can often buy better quality items that would otherwise be out of budget. below is a round up of some of my favourite places to buy second hand and vintage fashion:

  1. Vestiaire Collective - a global vintage and secondhand marketplace, specilasing in selling luxury high street and designer items

unique feature: you can save items you like and vestiaire will notify you when the seller has either lowered the price or has allowed potential buyers to make an offer. additionally, if you’re purchasing a high value item, you can request vestiaire’s authentication service for an additional £15

most recent purchase: isabel marant black tailored trousers - like new condition, £40 (RRP £360) + £4 p/p

  2. Cudoni - a uk based vintage and secondhand marketplace, for luxury high street and designer items. a much smaller offering than vestiaire, but ideal if you’re the type to be overwhelmed by choice

unique feature: 14 day full refund returns policy. additionally, all items are checked and verified by cudoni, at no additional cost

most recent purchase: maison margiela tabi platform boots - like new condition, £300 (RRP £895) and acne studios black tailored trousers - brand new, £40 (RRP £330) + £8.95 p/p

  3. Depop - a london based peer-to-peer marketplace. great for high street, vintage and streetwear.

unique feature: easy and quick way to sell your wardrobe clear out, as well shop second hand. some sellers will even swap items so you can update your wardrobe for free (not including p/p)

most recent purchase: hm faux leather trousers - like new condition, £12 (RRP £24.99) + £5 p/p

  4. eBay - an oldie but a goodie

unique feature: easy to identify the trustworthy sellers and who to avoid. eBay now offers an authentication guarantee on high value items, like these designer handbags

most recent purchase: cos linen shirt - brand new, £25 + £2 p/p

  5. reliked - a resale platform for influencers and content creators to sell their clothes, accessories and homeware
