according to a 2005 rutgers university study, fresh flowers boosts mood in three ways:
flowers immediately increase happiness. all the participants demonstrated ‘extraordinary delight and gratitude’ when they were surprised with a bunch of flowers
flowers have a long-term positive effect on moods. participants who received flowers felt less depressed, anxious and agitated after receiving flowers, compared with participants who received other gifts or no gift. they also demonstrated a higher sense of enjoyment and life satisfaction
flowers increase intimate connections. the study showed the presence of flowers led to increased contact with family and friends
lastly, the study found that the positive impact of receiving fresh flowers was universal. regardless of age or gender, all participants’ moods were significantly and sustainably improved after receiving a bunch of flowers, compared with alternative gifts and no gifts.
